Bynkershoek (spr. bainkershuk), Cornelis van, holländ. Rechtsgelehrter, geb. 29. Mai 1673 in Middelburg (Seeland), gest. 16. April 1743 im Haag, vorzüglich im Felde der sogen. eleganten oder kritischen Rechtswissenschaft hervorragend, wurde 1703 Mitglied des Rates von Holland und Westfriesland, 1724 Präsident des Großen Rates der Staaten von Holland und Seeland. Seine Hauptschriften sind: »De dominio maris« (1703), »Observationes juris Romani« (4 Bücher, Leiden 1710, und »Libri posteriores«, das. 1733), »Tractatus de foro legatorum« (das. 1721), »Quaestiones juris publici« (das. 1737, 2 Tle.), »Quaestiones juris privati« (nach seinem Tode, das. 1744). Eine Gesamtausgabe besorgte Ph. Vicat (Köln 1761, auch Leiden 1767, 2 Bde.). Vgl. Numan, Corn. van B. (Leiden 1869).
