Bellew (spr. bélljū), Henry Walter, engl. Orientalist und Forschungsreisender, geb. 30. Aug. 1834 in Indien, gest. 26. Juli 1892 in Buckshire, trat 1856 als Arzt in die indische Armee, begleitete 1857–58 eine englische Gesandtschaft nach Kandahar, war dann in Peschawar tätig, ging 1872 mit Pollock nach Persien, 1873–74 mit einer englischen Gesandtschaft unter Forsyth nach Kaschmir und war zuletzt britischer Agent in Kabul. Er schrieb: »Journal of a political mission to Candahar 1857–1858« (Lond. 1862); »Report on the Yusufzais« (1864); »From the Indus to the Tigris« (1874); »Kashmir and Kashgar« (1875); »Afghanistan and the Afghans« (1879); »The races of Afghanistan« (1880). Auch gab er eine Grammatik und ein Lexikon der Puschtusprache (1867) heraus.
