Saint-Mihiel (spr. ßäng-miäl), Stadt im franz. Depart. Maas, Arrond. Commercy, 220 m ü. M., am rechten Ufer der Maas und am Ostkanal, an der Ostbahn, hat eine ehemalige Abteikirche St.-Michel (15.–17. Jahrh.) und eine gotische Kirche St.-Etienne, beide mit schönen Skulpturen des zu S. gebornen Bildhauers Ligier-Richier (gest. 1572), Denkmal des Generals Blaise, einen Gerichts- und Assisenhof, ein Collège, eine Bibliothek (15,500 Bände), Fabrikation von Wirkwaren, Spitzen und optischen Waren, Brettsägen, Mühlen und (1901) 9208 Einw. Neuerdings ist S. durch Anlegung mehrerer Forts auf den umliegenden Höhen zum wichtigsten Platz der Maaslinie zwischen Verdun und Toul gemacht worden. Vgl. Dumont, Histoire de la ville de S.
