Clot

Clot (spr. klo), Antoine (Clot Bei), Mediziner, geb. 7. Nov. 1793 in Grenoble, gest. 28. Aug. 1868 in Marseille, studierte in Montpellier, war dann Arzt in Marseille und ging 1822 nach Ägypten. In Kairo errichtete er den Gesundheitsrat des Heeres und zu Abu Zabel eine medizinische Lehranstalt, an der er selbst die Chirurgie und die chirurgische Klinik übernahm; ferner gründete er daselbst eine Apotheker- und Veterinärschule und ein Hebammeninstitut. 1832 wurde er zum Bei ernannt. C. ordnete auch den Sanitätsdienst der ägyptischen Marine, wurde 1836 Generalstabsarzt der Armee und Chef des gesamten Medizinalwesens und nahm seinen Wohnsitz in Kairo, wohin auch 1837 die Unterrichtsanstalten verlegt wurden. Nach Mehemed Alis Tod ging er nach Marseille, kehrte jedoch 1854 nach Ägypten zurück und wurde 1855 Leibarzt des Vizekönigs Saïd Pascha. C. schrieb: »Compte rendu des travaux de l'école de médecine d'Abou-Zabel 1827–1832; etc.« (Marseille 1832–33); »Relation des épidémies de choléra-morbus qui ont regné à l'Heggiaz, à Suez et en Egypte« (das. 1832); »De la peste observée en Égypte« (Par. 1840); »Aperçu général sur l'Égypte« (das. 1840, 2 Bde.); »Coup d'œil sur la peste et les quarantaines« (das. 1851); »Méhémet Ali, viceroi d'Égypte« (Marseille 1862); »De l'ophthalmie, du trichiasis, de l'entropion et de la cataracte observés en Égypte« (Par. 1864); »Derniers mots sur la non-contagion de la peste« (Marseille 1866).
