Passaglia (spr. -allja), Carlo, ital. Theolog, geb. 2. Mai 1812 in Lucca, gest. 12. März 1887 in Turin, trat 1827 in den Jesuitenorden und ward 1844 Professor am Collegium Romanum. Als solcher nahm er an den Vorbereitungsarbeiten zur Verkündigung des neuen Mariendogmas teil und schrieb selbst: »De immaculato deiparae semper virginis conceptu« (Rom 1854, 3 Bde.). Seine 1860 anonym erschienene Flugschrift »Pro causa italica ad episcopos catholicos« hatte seine Ausstoßung aus dem Jesuitenorden zur Folge und wurde 1861 auf den Index gesetzt. P., vor der Inquisition flüchtig, lehrte seit 1861 in Turin als Professor der Moral und führte 1862–66 einen heftigen Kampf wider die weltliche Macht der Kurie, bis er öffentlich widerrief. Er schrieb noch: »La questione dell' indipendenza ed unità d'Italia dinanzi al clero« (Flor. 1861); »La vita di Gesù scritta da E. Renan, discussa e confutata« (Tur. 1864, 2 Bde.); »La causa del cardinale Girolamo d'Andrea« (das. 1867).
