Montgomery (spr. montgömmerì), 1) Stadt (municipal borough) in Montgomeryshire (Nordwales), an einem vom Severn bespülten Hügelabhang, dessen Gipfel die Ruine einer Burg trägt, und dicht beim verfallenen Grenzwall Ossa' s Dyke. Früher stark befestigt. wurde es als Grenzstadt oft belagert, ist aber jetzt ohne Bedeutung u. hat (1901) nur 1034 Einw. – 2) Hauptstadt des nordamerikan. Staates Alabama, auf hohem Bluff an dem schiffbaren Alabamafluß, Bahnknotenpunkt, hat ein Kapitol, Postamt, Gerichtsgebäude, höhere Schulen, starken Baumwollhandel und (1900) 30,346 Einw. (darunter 17,229, d.h. 57 Proz., Farbige). Die Stadt war 1861 Hauptstadt der Konföderierten und wurde von den Unionstruppen 11. April 1865 genommen und verwüstet.
