Chr. seinem Vater Nebukadnezar, ward aber schon im zweiten Jahr seiner »ungerechten und schwelgerischen« Regierung von seinem Schwager Neriglissar ermordet. Er befreite den 35 Jahre gefangen gehaltenen jüdischen König Jojachin aus dem Kerker (2. Kön. 25).
