Bradwardine

Bradwardine, Thomas von, mit dem Beinamen »Doctor profundus«, berühmter Scholastiker, geb. 1290 in Hartfield bei Chichester, studierte Mathematik und Astronomie, vor allem aber scholastische Theologie, wurde ordentlicher Lehrer der letztern in Oxford, dann Kanzler an der Paulskirche in London und starb 1349 als Erzbischof von Canterbury. Er trug ein deterministisches, ja fast an das Pantheistische streifendes System vor, in dem die freie Gnadenwirkung Gottes betont wurde. Sein Buch »De causa Dei contra Pelagium« wurde 1618 in London gedruckt.
