Bernhardy

Bernhardy, Gottfried, Philolog, geb. 20. März 1800 in Landsberg a. d. Warthe, gest. 14. Mai 1875 in Halle, Sohn eines jüdischen Kaufmanns, studierte 1817–20 in Berlin und wurde 1820 Lehrer am Friedrichswerderschen Gymnasium, 1823 Privatdozent an der Universität, 1825 außerordentlicher Professor daselbst, 1829 ordentlicher Professor und Direktor des philologischen Seminars in Halle, 1844 zugleich Oberbibliothekar. Seine Hauptwerke sind: »Wissenschaftliche Syntax der griechischen Sprache« (Berl. 1829), ergänzt durch »Paralipomena syntaxis graecae« (Halle 1854 u. 1862); »Grundriß der römischen Literatur« (das. 1830; 5. Bearbeitung, Braunschw. 1872); »Grundriß der griechischen Literatur« (1. Teil: Einleitung und allgemeine Übersicht, Halle 1836; 5. Bearbeitung von Volkmann, 1892; 2. Teil: »Geschichte der griechischen Poesie«, das. 1845; 3. Bearbeitung 1867–72,2. Abdruck 1876–80) und die kritische Ausgabe von »Suidae lexicon« (Halle u. Braunschw. 1834–53, 2 Bde.). Außerdem erschienen von ihm: »Eratosthenica« (Berl. 1822); der 1. Band einer Sammlung der »Geographi graeci minores«, den Dionysios Periegetes enthaltend (Leipz. 1828); »Grundlinien zur Enzyklopädie der Philologie« (Halle 1832). Vgl. R. Volkmann, Gottfried B.
