Prévost-Paradol (spr. prewo-paradoll), Lucien Anatole, franz. Schriftsteller und Journalist, geb. 8. Aug. 1829 in Paris als der Sohn einer Schauspielerin vom Théâtre-Français, gest. 20. Juli 1870 in Washington, widmete sich in Paris der Journalistik. Nach dem Sturz des absolutistischen Systems (1870) schien sich ihm eine ehrenvolle diplomatische Laufbahn öffnen zu wollen: er wurde vom Kabinett Ollivier zum Gesandten in Washington ernannt; aber kaum dort angelangt, machte er auf die Kunde, daß der Krieg an Deutschland erklärt sei, seinem Leben durch Selbstmord ein Ende. Von seinen Werken erwähnen wir: »Du rôle de la famille dans l'éducation« (1857); »Quelques pages d'histoire contemporaine. Lettres politiques« (1862–66, 4 Bde.; 2. Aufl. 1872, 2 Bde.); ferner die gediegenen literarisch-philosophischen »Études sur les moralistes français« (1865, 3. Aufl. 1873) und besonders »La France nouvelle« (1868, neue Ausg. 1876). Vgl.
