O'Shaughnessy

O'Shaughnessy (spr. o-schaonessi), Arthur William Edgar, engl. Gelehrter und Dichter, geb. 14. März 1846 in London, gest. daselbst 31. Jan. 1881 als Beamter in der naturwissenschaftlichen Abteilung des Britischen Museums. In seinen DichtungenAn epic of women«, 1871; »The lays of France«, 1872; »Music and moonlight«, 1874, und aus seinem Nach laß: »Songs of a worker«, 1881) zeigte er den Ein fluß der französischen Romantik von V. Hugo und M. Coppée. Mit seiner Gattin Eleanor, einer Tochter des Dichters W. Marston, gab er »Toyland« (1875) heraus. Vgl. Louise C. Moulton, Arthur O'S., his life and his work (Lond. 1894).
