Arton

Arton (eigentlich Aron), Leopold Emil, Bankier, geb. 1849 in Straßburg, seit 1871 in Paris, verteilte hauptsächlich die Bestechungsgelder der Panamagesellschaft an Staatsmänner und Politiker, um die Genehmigung der Kammern für die Finanzoperationen der Gesellschaft zu erlangen. Er floh 1892 ins Ausland und wurde erst Ende 1895 in London verhaftet und ausgeliefert, worauf er 1896 wegen Betrugs gegen eine Dynamitgesellschaft zu 6 Jahren Zwangsarbeit verurteilt wurde.
