Frothe

Frothe (Frotho, altnord. Frodhi), mythischer König und Nationalheld der Dänen, Sohn des Königs Fridlevus und der schönen Frogertha, dessen Regierung die Sage in die Zeit Christi setzt. Siegreich unterwarf er alle Nachbarvölker, insbes. die Hunnen und Slawen, und beglückte sein Volk mit Wohlstand und den Segnungen eines dauerhaften Friedens, den man den »Frodhi-Frieden« nannte. Einst in den Besitz einer Wundermühle, die alles zu mahlen vermochte, gelangt, brachte er zwei Riesenmägde aus Schweden herbei, die ihm auf der Mühle Gold, Glück und Frieden mahlen mußten, bis sie, ergrimmt über die ununterbrochene Arbeit, ein Wikingerheer unter dem Seekönig Mysing hervorbrachten, das den F. besiegte. Auch im Gudrunlied spielt F. eine Rolle, und deutsche Minnesinger preisen den König Fruote wegen seiner Tugenden und seines Glückes.
