Freshfield (spr. fréschfīld), Douglas William, engl. Alpinist und Reiseschriftsteller, geb. 27. April 1845, studierte in Oxford, bereiste den Himalaja, Syrien, Algerien, den Kaukasus, Armenien und die Alpenländer und veröffentlichte: »Travels in the Central Caucasus and Bashan« (1869); »The Italian Alps« (1875); »The exploration of the Caucasus« (1896, 2 Bde.; 2. Aufl. 1902); »Round Kangchenjunga« (1904). Er gab auch 1872–80 das »Alpine Journal« heraus und mit Wharton »Hints to travellers« (neue Ausg. 1894).
