Ephŏrus (griech. éphoros, vgl. Ephoren), der Geistliche, der einer Anzahl andrer Geistlichen vorsteht und sie beaufsichtigt, in protestantischen Ländern daher soviel wie Superintendent. Der ihm unterstellte Bezirk heißt Ephorie, sein Amt Ephorat. Der Ausdruck ist auch auf andre Ämter übertragen (E. einer Universitätsbibliothek etc.).
