Sculptor, ital. Künstlerfamilie, von Bartsch fälschlich Ghisi genannt. Giovanni Battista, geb. 1503 in Mantua, daher Mantovano genannt, gest. daselbst 1575, Schüler von Giulio Romano, war Maler und Bildhauer und soll die Stuckornamente im Palazzo del Tè geschaffen haben. Man kennt von ihm auch etwa 20 treffliche Kupferstiche, meist nach Zeichnungen seines Lehrers. Weniger bedeutend sind die ca. 58 Blätter nach G. Romano, Zuccaro u. a. von seiner Tochter Diana, die den Architekten Fr. Ricciarelli von Volterra heiratete und 1575–88 in Rom arbeitete, noch roher die seines Sohnes Adamo, der in Rom meist nach Michelangelo st ach.
