Santo Tomas de Castillo

Santo Tomas de Castillo (spr. kastilljo), Hafenstadt im mittelamerikan. Staate Guatemala, an der Bai von Amatique und mit der unvollendeten Eisenbahn nach der Landeshauptstadt verbunden. Ein belgischer Kolonisationsverein erhielt 1842 von der Regierung den Hafen nebst 360,000 Hektar unter der Bedingung, Straßen und Brücken zu bauen und mindestens 1000 Familien in 10 Jahren einzuführen, doch gingen durch Mißwirtschaft der Gesellschaft die Einwanderer elend zugrunde oder zerstreuten sich in alle Winde.
