Rumbold

Rumbold, Sir Horace, Baronet, brit. Diplomat, geb. 1829, trat in den diplomatischen Dienst, wurde 1849 Gesandtschaftsattaché und war bei den Gesandtschaften in Paris, Florenz, Frankfurt, Stuttgart und Wien tätig. 1858 wurde er zum Legationssekretär in Peking ernannt, ging 1862 nach Athen, war 1868–71 Botschaftssekretär in St. Petersburg, dann in Konstantinopel und ward 1872 zum Gesandten und Generalkonsul in Chile befördert. Demnächst wurde R. 1878 Gesandter in Bern, 1879 in Argentinien, 1881 in Schweden, 1884 in Griechenland, 1888 in den Niederlanden; 1896–1900 war er Botschafter in Wien. Er veröffentlichte: »The great Silver-river. Buenos Ayres in 1880–1881« (2. Aufl., Lond. 1890); »Recollections of a diplomatist« (das. 1902, 2 Bde.) und »Further recollections« (das. 1903).
