Norfolk (spr. nórrfŏk), britisch-austral. Insel im Stillen Ozean, selbständige Kolonie in Verwaltung des Gouverneurs von Neusüdwales, zwischen Neukaledonien und Neuseeland, 41,3 qkm, mit den benachbarten Inseln Nepean und Philip (Pig) 44 qkm groß, mit (1896) 868 Einw. Die 317 m hohe Insel ist durch Fruchtbarkeit ausgezeichnet, in der üppigen Flora erscheinen eine Palme (Areca Baueri), die herrliche Norfolktanne (Araucaria excelsa), das Phormium tenax, ein Baumfarn. Die Viehzucht ist bedeutend. N. ist jetzt Zentralstation des allbritischen Kabels durch den Großen Ozean, das von Suwa auf den Fidschiinseln hierher geführt ist und sich gabelt, um einerseits das australische Festland bei Southport in der Nähe von Brisbane, anderseits Neuseeland zu erreichen. Die Insel wurde 1774 von Cook entdeckt. war 1788–1851 Verbrecherkolonie und wurde 1856 den Bewohnern von Pitcairn (s. d.) übergeben.
