Marīnus

Marīnus, Name zweier Päpste: 1) M. I., Papst vom Dezember 882 bis Mai 884, Sohn eines Priesters aus Gallese in Toskana, war vor seiner Erhebung dreimal als Legat in Konstantinopel, dann Archidiakon der römischen Kirche und Bischof von Cäre in Etrurien. – 2) M. II., als Kreatur des Patricius Alberich II. (s. d.) Papst vom Oktober 942 bis Mai 946. Seit dem 13. Jahrh. gelten M. I. und M. II. als Martin II. und Martin III. (s. d.).
