Lafuénte, 1) Modesto, span. Geschichtschreiber, geb. 1806 in Rabanel de los Caballeros (Provinz Palencia), gest. 25. Okt. 1866, war zuerst Professor und Bibliothekar in Astorga und siedelte 1838 nach Madrid über, wo er mehrmals in die Cortes gewählt und Direktor der diplomatischen Hochschule sowie Präsident der Junta de archivos y bibliotecas wurde. Unter dem Pseudonym Fray Gerundio (s. Isla) gab er eine Reihe satirischer Zeitschriften und Schriften heraus, die weite Verbreitung gefunden haben, so: »Coleccion de capilladas y disciplinazos« (16 Bde.), »Viages por Francia, Belgica, Hollanda y orillas del Rhin« (2 Bde.), »Viage aerostatico« und »Revista europea« (4 Bde.), sämtlich zwischen 1844 und 1850 erschienen. Sein Hauptwerk ist jedoch die trotz ihrer Parteilichkeit geschätzte »Historia general de España« (Madr. 1850–66, 30 Bde.; 2. Aufl. 1874 bis 1875, 13 Bde.), gegenwärtig noch die umfassendste Geschichte Spaniens.

2) Miguel L. y Alcántara, geb. 10. Juli 1817 in Archidona (Prov. Malaga), gest. im August 1850 als Fiskal von Cuba, schrieb eine »Historia de Granada« (Granada 1843–48, 4 Bde.; Par. 1851, 2 Bde.).
