Kâma

Kâma (auch Manmatha), in der ind. Mythologie der Gott der Liebe, dem griechischen Eros zu vergleichen und nach einigen ihm nachgebildet. Er reitet auf einem Papagei und verwundet mit einem Pfeil aus Blumen, der von einem Bogen aus Zuckerrohr abgeschossen wird. Er heißt auch Ananga (»der Körperlose«), weil er der Sage nach einst von Çiva im Zorn zu Asche verbrannt wurde und seitdem seinen eigentlichen Körper verloren hat. Seine Gattin ist die schöne Rati (»Wollust«).
