Anthem, in England der Name für kirchliche Kompositionen einer zwischen Kantate und Motette stehenden Faktur. Man unterscheidet »full anthems«, in denen der Chor überwiegt, u. »verse anthems«, worin Soli, Duette etc. vorherrschen. Die Texte sind biblisch.
