Grenfell, 1) Francis Wallace, Lord, engl. General, geb. 29. April 1841 in London, trat 1859 als Fähnrich in die britische Armee, diente 1878–82 in Südafrika, ward 1882 Oberst und nahm im selben Jahr an der ägyptischen und 1884 an der Nilexpedition teil. 1889 befehligte er als Generalmajor die englischen und ägyptischen Streitkräfte bei Suakim im Feldzuge gegen die Derwische; 1897–98 war er Oberbefehlshaber der Truppen in Ägypten und 1898–1903 Gouverneur von Malta. 1902 wurde er bei der Krönung des Königs zum Peer erhoben, 1903 zum Kommandeur des 4. Armeekorps ernannt.

2) George, brit. Missionar und Afrikareisender, geb. 21. Aug. 1849 in Penzance (Cornwall), besuchte das Baptist College in Bristol und wurde von der Baptist Missionary Society 1874 zum Kamerun und 1878 zum Kongo gesandt, wo er sich besonders um die Erforschung seiner Zuflüsse verdient machte, 1884 die Mündung des Ubangi entdeckte und ihn 1885 bis 4°25´ nördl. Br. hinausfuhr. 1891–93 war er vom Kongostaat mit der Feststellung der Grenze gegen die benachbarten portugiesischen Besitzungen beauftragt. Er lebt gegenwärtig in Bolobo am Kongo.
