Dryobalănops Gärtn. (Flügeleiche, Kampferölbaum), Gattung der Dipterokarpazeen, umfaßt große Bäume mit lederartigen Blättern, Blüten in endständigen Rispen und mit in drei Klappen aufspringenden Früchten. Vier Arten wachsen auf Borneo und Sumatra. D. aromatica Gärtn. (D. Camphora Colebr.) ist ein 45 m hoher Baum mit breiten, leistenartigen Wurzelansätzen, gestielten, eiförmigen, zugespitzten Blättern, end- oder achselständigen Blütenständen, weißen, sehr wohlriechenden Blüten und geflügelten Kapseln. Beim Anbohren gibt er einen kleberigen Balsam, der aus einem ätherischen Öl (Borneen), Kampfer und einem Harz besteht. Dies Öl läßt sich künstlich in einen eigentümlichen Kampfer, den Baros-, Borneo- oder Sumatrakampfer (Borneol), umwandeln und erleidet dieselbe Veränderung auch im lebenden Baum. Ältere Stämme liefern daher direkt Borneokampfer, der aus dem gespaltenen Holz herausgesucht wird (s. Kampfer).
