Das kalte B. zwischen der Großen Karroo und den Olifantbergen ist gutes Weideland, das südlichere, reich bewässerte warme B. eignet sich für Acker- und Weinbau. Der Hauptort des letztern ist Ceres, Missionsstation und Luftkurort für Lungenkranke mit (1891) 1596 Einw.
