B'nē-B'rith

B'nē-B'rith (Benaiberiß, Independent Order of B. B., Unabhängiger Orden der B. B., »Bundesbrüder«), Name einer Verbindung, die 1843 in Amerika von israelitischen Männern deutscher Abkunft gegründet wurde und sich zur Aufgabe stellte, für die sittliche Hebung ihrer Mitglieder wie der Menschheit überhaupt zu wirken. Die Organisation des B. B.-Ordens ist ähnlich der des Freimaurerordens, jedoch auf freierer Grundlage, nicht geheim und ohne dessen Zeremonien. In Deutschland ist der Orden 1882 eingeführt worden, und auch im Orient hat er seitdem Eingang gefunden. Gegenwärtig zählt er 540 Logen und etwa 33,000 Mitglieder, davon in Deutschland 57 Logen mit etwa 5500 Mitgliedern. Sein Leitsatz ist: »Wohltätigkeit, Bruderliebe und Eintracht«.
