Tonneau (franz., spr. -nō, »Tonne, Faß«), altes Flüssigkeitsmaß: in Paris = 2 muids mit 548,44 Lit. Inhalt, für Bordeauxwein 6 Tierçons = jetzt 912 L. Der T. de mer (T. de fret) wurde 1681 auf 42 pieds cubes = 1,4396 cbm und an Gewicht auf 20 quintaux = 979,012 kg bestimmt, so noch in Haïti. Seit 1800 als Schiffslast soviel wie millier (T. métrique) = 1000 kg und bei Seefrachten nach der Warengattung verschieden (15 hl Getreide, 900 L. Öl etc.).
