Rothstein

Rothstein, Hugo, Begründer der preuß. Militärgymnastik nach schwedischem System, geb. 28. Aug. 1810 in Erfurt, gest. daselbst 23. März 1865, wurde 1845–46 als Artillerieleutnant zum Studium der Lingschen Gymnastik nach Stockholm gesandt und dann mit Einrichtung der 1851 ins Leben getretenen preußischen Zentralturnanstalt beauftragt, der er bis zu seiner Verabschiedung (1863) als Unterrichtsdirigent vorstand. Sein Hauptwerk ist: »Die Gymnastik nachdem System des schwedischen Gymnasiarchen P. H. Ling« (Berl. 1846–59,8 Hefte). Nach seinem Abgang ist die Militärgymnastik mehr auf den Boden des deutschen Turnens übergetreten.
