Procter

Procter, Bryan Waller, unter dem Pseudonym Barry Cornwall bekannter engl. Dichter, geb. 21. Nov. 1787 in Wiltshire, gest. 4. Okt. 1874 in London, wurde Advokat und Kommissar für die Verwaltung der Irrenanstalten. Als Dichter trat er zuerst 1819 mit »Dramatic scenes« (neue Ausg. 1856) auf, denen 1821 das Trauerspiel »Mirandola«, die »English songs« (1832, neue Aufl. 1870), die Biographien von Edmund Keane (1835, 2 Bde.), Charles Lamb (1866) u. a. folgten. Eine Sammlung seiner »Essays and tales in prose« erschien 1853 in 2 Bänden. Vgl. »Bryan Waller P. (Barry Cornwall), an autobiographical fragment« (Lond. 1877).
