Phloridzīn C21H24O10 findet sich in Wurzelrinde des Apfel-, Birn-, Kirsch- und Pflaumenbaums, bildet farb- und geruchlose Nadeln, schmeckt schwach bitterlich süß, löst sich in Wasser und Alkohol, wenig in Äther, wird bei 100° wasserfrei, schmilzt bei 108° und gibt beim Kochen mit verdünnten Säuren Traubenzucker und Phloretin C15H14O5, das durch kochende Kalilauge in Phloretinsäure C9H10O3 und Phloroglucin C6H6O3 verwandelt wird.
