Niccolò de' Niccoli

Niccolò de' Niccoli, Gelehrter, geb. 1363 in Florenz, gest. daselbst 4. Febr. 1437, ward Kaufmann, widmete sich aber nach seines Vaters Tode ganz den Wissenschaften, studierte unter Chrysoloras sogar Griechisch und lebte, eng befreundet mit Cosimo de' Medici und den Gelehrten seines Hofes, in unabhängiger Muße. Mehr anregend als produktiv, erwarb er sich besonders um die klassische Literatur ein hohes Verdienst durch fleißiges Sammeln und Kopieren wertvoller Handschriften. Seine aus 800 Bänden bestehende Privatbibliothek ward testamentarisch zu öffentlichem Gebrauch bestimmt.
