Mocenni

Mocenni (spr. -tschenni), Mario, Kardinal, geb. 22. Jan. 1823 in Montefiascone, gest. 14. Nov. 1904 studierte im Seminar seiner Vaterstadt und in Rom und wurde dann Professor am Priesterseminar in Viterbo. 1868 trat er als Sekretär bei der Nunziatur in Wien in den diplomatischen Dienst, war dann in Chile, Ecuador, Peru und Bolivia päpstlicher Delegat, darauf Internunzius in Brasilien und von 1882 an zehn Jahre lang Substitut des Kardinalstaatssekretärs. Leo XIII. ernannte ihn 1893 zum Kardinal und übertrug ihm die Verwaltung des Vatikans und des Peterspfennigs; er gehörte zur Partei des Kardinals Rampolla, die in den letzten Jahren Leos die päpstliche Politik beherrschte.
