Millau (Milhau, spr. milō, mijō), Arrondissementshauptstadt im franz. Depart. Aveyron, 368 m ü. M., am Tarn, der hier die Dourbie aufnimmt, und an der Südbahn, hat eine Kirche Notre-Dame im romanischen und Renaissancestil, eine moderne Kirche St.-François, ein ehemaliges Stadthaus mit schönem Belfried (14. Jahrh.), ein Collège, ein Handelsgericht, eine Ackerbau- und eine Gewerbekammer, Kohlenbergbau, bedeutende Gerbereien, Fabriken von Handschuhen und Albumin, Maschinenbau, Handel um Häuten, Wolle, Wein, Käse und (1901) 17,512 (al-Gemeinde 18,701) Einw. – M. war seit 1565 ein Hauptsitz der Protestanten, empörte sich 1620 und wurde 1629 von Ludwig XIII. erobert und der Festungswerke beraubt. 12 km nordöstlich von M. finden sich über dem Tal der Dourbie seltsame, durch Erosion gebildete, ruinenähnliche Felsbildungen der Causses, die seit 1883 unter dem Namen Montpellier-le Vieux bekannt sind und viel besucht werden.
