Masuccio

Masuccio (spr. -úttscho), Tommaso dei Guardati, ital. Schriftsteller, aus Salerno gebürtig, um 1420–1500, lebte am Hofe zu Neapel und ist berühmt als Verfasser des »Novellino« (Neap. 1476, und sonst), einer Sammlung von 50 Novellen, die, eine Nachahmung von Boccaccios »Decamerone«, lebenswahre, oft verwegene Sittengemälde aus der damaligen Gesellschaft enthalten und daher dem Kulturforscher eine unschätzbare Quelle darbieten. Der Stil ist meist plump und schwerfällig, die Sprache mit Latinismen und Neapolitanisch durchsetzt. Eine neue Ausgabe lieferte Settembrini (»Il novellino di Masuccio Salernitano«, Neap. 1874), eine Übersetzung Sakolowski (Altenb. 1905, 2 Tle.). Vgl.
