Madon

Madon (spr. -dū), Jean Baptiste, belg. Maler, geb. 1796 in Brüssel, gest. daselbst 3. April 1877, machte sich zuerst als Lithograph durch Herausgabe von Sammelwerken über belgische Kostüme, dann einer »Physionomie de la sociétéen Europe de Louis IX à nos jours« (1835–36) einen Namen. Besonders bekannt sind die »Scènes de la vie des peintres de l'école flamande et hollandaise« (1840). Seine zahlreichen Öl- und Aquarellbilder behandeln meist Genreszenen mit Figuren in der Tracht des 17. und 18. Jahrh.; sie zeigen Geist und Humor in der Erfindung und große Gewandtheit in der Ausführung.
