Lēkythos

Lēkythos, altgriech. Tongefäß in Form einer Kanne mit Henkel und dünnem Hals (s. Abbild.), das zum Aufbewahren von Salböl u. zum Begießen der Gräber mit dem geweihten Öl benutzt wurde, namentlich aber als Beigabe für die Toten in Gräbern diente und zu diesem Zweck (wie besonders in Attika) mit auf den Totenkult bezüglichen Darstellungen bemalt wurde (vgl. Tafel »Vasen«, Fig. 6).
