Kuranko

Kuranko (Koranko), zur brit. Kolonie Sierra Leone (Abkommen mit Frankreich 1895) gehörige fruchtbare Landschaft im Nordosten, von zahlreichen, zum Atlantischen Ozean sich entwässernden Flüssen, unter andern der Rokelle und Bampanna, durchzogen. Friedliche Ackerbauer bewohnen das Land, nur gegen das Gebirge hin sind Reste wilder Stämme. K. wurde zuerst von Laing 1826 besucht, 1869 von Reade, 1879 von Zweifel und Moustier, als sie die Nigerquellen aufsuchten, und ist 1895–96 von Trotter eingehender erforscht worden.
