Knaresborough

Knaresborough (spr. nǟrsböro), Stadt im Westbezirk von Yorkshire (England), malerisch am Nidd gelegen, den hier Felsen einengen, und von den großartigen Ruinen eines Schlosses aus der Zeit Eduards III. überragt, hat eine alte gotische Kirche, Lateinschule, Fabrikation von Leinwand und (1901) 4979 Einw. Dabei eine versteinernde Quelle (Dropping Well) und unterhalb die St. Robert ' s Cave, in der Eugen Aram seinen Freund Clark ermordete, und Ribston Hall, wo eine berühmte Apfelsorte zuerst kultiviert wurde.
