Arda Viraf, Name eines frommen Parsenpriesters, dessen Seele, während er schlief, durch Himmel und Hölle geführt worden sein soll. A. scheint in der Zeit der Sasanidendynastie, etwa im 6. Jahrh. n. Chr., gelebt zu haben, aber die in der Pehlewisprache abgefaßte Sage von A., ein Seitenstück zu Dantes »Divina Commedia«, kann nicht vor dem 9. Jahrh. in Persien entstanden sein. Eine Textausgabe und englische Übersetzung dieses Werkes lieferte Haug in Gemeinschaft mit einem Parsenpriester und dem Engländer West (Bombay 1872 ff.), eine französische Übersetzung A. Barthélemy (Par. 1887).
