Ingleby (spr. ingl'bĭ), Clement Mansfield, engl. Kritiker, geb. 29. Okt. 1823 in Edgbaston bei Birmingham, gest. 5. Okt. 1886 in London, studierte in Cambridge Mathematik und Philosophie und war 1855–1858 Professor der Logik und Metaphysik am Midland Institut seiner Vaterstadt. Er gehört zu den bedeutendsten englischen Shakespeare-Forschern und verbindet hier die ältere begeisterte mit der jüngern kritischen Schule. Unter seinen vielen Schriften sind von besonderer Bedeutung: »Shakespeare on the Perkins fabrications« (1859); »A complete view of the Shakespeare controversy« (1861), worin er die Unechtheit der Noten in der unter dem Namen »Perkins-Folio« bekannten Shakespeare-Ausgabe nachwies; »Shakespeare's century of prayse« (1874) und »Shakespeare's allusion-books« (1874), womit er Shakespeare im Lichte seiner Zeitgenossen erscheinen läßt. I. war auch Kurator von Shakespeares Geburtshaus sowie ein tätiges Mitglied der New Shakespeare Society. Nach seinem Tod erschien von ihm noch ein Band »Essays« (1888).
