Humpata

Humpata (São Januario), Burenniederlassung im Distrikt Mossamedes der portugiesisch-westafrikan. Kolonie Angola, auf einer Hochebene zwischen der Serra da Munda im N. und der Serra da Schilla im S., 1020 m ü. M., links am Fluß Kakulovar, ist durch eine Straße mit Mossamedes verbunden. Hier ließ sich 1880 eine Kolonie von 270 Buren aus dem Transvaal nieder, die, jetzt zu einer starken Gemeinde angewachsen, den hübsch gebauten Ort gegründet haben und durch Ackerbau und Viehzucht sowie Jagd zu Wohlstand gelangt sind. Sie zahlen keine Abgaben an die portugiesische Regierung und führen eine selbständige Verwaltung. Vgl. Huilla.
