Gennadĭos (eigentlich Georgios Scholarios), gelehrter griech. Theolog, trat auf dem Florentiner Konzil (s.d.) für die Union mit der römischen Kirche ein, die er aber nach seiner Rückkehr heftig bekämpfte. Als Patriarch überreichte er nach der Eroberung Konstantinopels durch die Türken 1453 dem Sultan Mohammed ein in der griechischen Kirche hochangesehenes Bekenntnis. Er starb 1459 im Kloster. Vgl.
