Fitzmaurice

Fitzmaurice (spr. -mórris), Lord Edmond George, engl. Politiker, geb. 19. Juni 1846, zweiter Sohn des vierten Marquis von Lansdowne, studierte in Cambridge und wurde 1868 ins Parlament gewählt. 1872–73 war er Privatsekretär des Ministers des Innern, Lowe, und, nachdem er Mitglied der internationalen Kommission für Ostrumelien und der Donaukonferenz in London gewesen, 1883–85 Untersekretär im Auswärtigen Amt. Im Unterhaus gehört er zur radikalen Opposition, ist also ein politischer Gegner seines ältern Bruders, des Ministers des Auswärtigen, Marquis von Lansdowne. Er veröffentlichte: »The life and papers of William, Earl of Shelburne« (Lond. 1875–76, 3 Bde.); »Life of Sir William Petty, the political economist, 1623–1687« (1895); »Charles William Ferdinand, duke of Brunswick« (1901) u. a.
