Al Kindi

Al Kindi (Alcindus, Alchindi, eigentlich Abu Jussuf Jakub Ibn Ißhak al Kindi), berühmt als Mathematiker, Arzt, Astrolog und Philosoph, geboren in Basra um die Wende des 8. Jahrh., gestorben um 873 in Bagdad, wird von den Arabern als der eigentliche Begründer ihrer Philosophie angesehen und kurzweg als »der Philosoph« bezeichnet, mußte aber als Rationalist und Freidenker viele Verfolgungen erleiden. Von seinen 34 philosophischen Schriften, die er neben zahlreichen andern verfaßte, und in denen er besonders das »Organon« des Aristoteles kommentierte. hat sich wenig erhalten. Vgl.
