Chenonceaux

Chenonceaux (spr. sch'nongßō), Dorf im franz. Depart. Indre-et-Loire, Arrond. Tours, am Cher und der Orléansbahn, hat ein berühmtes Schloß mit Park und (1901) 219 Einw. Das prachtvolle, in das Flußbett des Cher hineingebaute Renaissanceschloß wurde 1515 vom Oberfinanzeinnehmer Thomas Bohier begonnen, von Diana von Poitiers und Katharina von Medici vergrößert. 1870–88 wurde es restauriert. Es enthält eine schöne Kapelle, eine Galerie und viele mit Gemälden geschmückte Säle.
