Chatsworth

Chatsworth (spr. tschättsŭörth), prachtvoller Landsitz des Herzogs von Devonshire in Derbyshire (England), unweit Bakewell, am Derwent, 1688–1706 nach dem Entwurf Wrens im ionischen Stil neuerbaut. Das Schloß steht inmitten großartiger Parkanlagen und enthält reiche Kunstschätze (Gemälde, Handzeichnungen, Skulpturen, Holzschnitzereien). Das Gewächshaus ist eine Schöpfung Joseph Paxtons (s.d.). Die Wasserkünste, mit 80 m hohem Wasserstrahl, stehen denen zu Versailles nicht viel nach.
