Wellby, Montague S., engl. Offizier und Forschungsreisender, geb. 1876, gest. 5. Aug. 1900 an einer im Kriege mit den Buren erhaltenen Wunde, durchquerte 1896 mit Malcolm das tibetische Hochland, besuchte 1894 das Somalland und zog 1898–99 durch Abessinien zum Rudolfsee, dann durch zum Teil völlig unerforschtes Gebiet zum Sobat und Nil. Er veröffentlichte: »Thronab unknown Tibet« (Lond. 1898) und »'Twixt Sirdar and Menelik. An account of a year's expedition from Zeila to Cairo through unknown Abyssinia« (Lond. 1901).
