Service (engl., spr. ßörwĭs), zusammenfassender Name für die im Gottesdienst der englischen Staatskirche zugelassenen freien Kompositionen von Teilen der Liturgie, unterschieden als Morning-S. (für den Morgengottesdienst) und Evening-S. (für den Abendgottesdienst). Teile der S. sind das Venite, Tedeum, Benedicite, Benedictus, Jubilate, Kyrie. Gloria, Credo, Sanctus (Agnus nur ausnahmsweise), Magnificat, Cantate Domino, Nunc dimittis, Deus misereatur. Nicht zum Begriff der S. gehören die choraliter (im plain chant) gesungenen Teile der Liturgie, ebensowenig aber auch die auf frei erfundene, nicht biblischen Texte komponierten Anthems.
