Selma

Selma, Hauptort der Grafschaft Dallas des nordamerikan. Staates Alabama, am Alabamafluß, Bahnknotenpunkt und Dampferstation, hat eine Universität für Farbige, Eisenbahnwerkstätten, Baumwollölfabriken, starken Baumwollhandel und (1900) 8713 Einw. (zur Hälfte Farbige). Die Stadt hat über 100 artesische Brunnen. S. wurde 2. April 1865 von den Unionstruppen teilweise eingeäschert.
